QUALITY EDGE'S COLOR PALETTE
Color is an integral part of design, whether you’re restoring an older home's exterior or designing a new home. Our 31 System Colors include the best exterior trim colors to harmonize with the siding colors in highest demand from discriminating homeowners. Here are some tips on choosing accent colors.
How to complement White Windows?
Q: We have white windows but would like to use another color for our trim. What would you recommend?
A: Most homeowners today use an accenting color to trim their fascia, soffit and other areas. If their home has a monochromatic design, they choose shades of the siding or brick to trim the fascia, soffit and other areas.
Because most window manufacturers offer only a few colors, the majority of windows are either white or an earth tone shade of clay. We say, “Be bold!” Use a different trim color than the color of your windows.
And remember, the profile of a window is usually only a 1/2” compared with the 3-1/2” to 5-1/2” casings around your windows. When you use an accenting trim color around your windows, the window color is minimized and becomes less of a factor in your overall color selection.
Choosing Garage Door Colors
Q: What color should we paint our garage door?
A: If you paint your garage door a color that accents your siding or brick, the garage door may draw attention away from your intended design or focal point. However, if you paint your garage door the same color or shade as your siding or brick, your attention and eye (and that of your guests) will be drawn to the more interesting areas of your home, such as your main entrance, window trim or dormers.
A color tip for monochromatic designs “Remember that monochromatic or one color exterior decorating isn’t one shade or one tint decorating. It also isn’t restricted to neutrals. Instead you are using one color that appeals to you and introducing variations in textures and materials in shades and tints.”
